Our Partners

We collaborate with a broad range of partners in our dedication to challenging physical inactivity and health inequalities in Greater Manchester.

Alone, GM Active and our member organisations could never reach their fullest potential to reduce health inequalities and turn the tide on inactivity. But by working in collaboration, creating a common cause and a unified voice, we work with – and alongside – a broad range of local, regional and national organisations to achieve much more for the wider community, delivering a lasting, positive social impact across Greater Manchester.

Those involved in our dedication to helping Greater Manchester residents live healthy, happy and longer lives include:

Greater Manchester Moving

Greater Manchester Moving is GM’s movement for movement working together to positively change the lives of people across Greater Manchester through physical activity and sport.

GM Moving in Action is the Greater Manchester strategy for physical activity. It is shaped and powered by GM Moving, the ‘movement for movement’.

Everyone has a role to play in GM Moving; people, communities and organisations, from every sector and place across the city region, pulling in the same direction and with a shared goal to help people move more. We’re united by a shared passion and commitment for what we do, why we do it and how we do it.

The GM Moving in Action strategy is the tool for doing this, setting out what they’ll do to get people moving more by designing moving into everyday life. Helping people move a little more, making it easier to be active and a natural part of how we all live, travel, work and play in Greater Manchester.

GM Active is a key partner of the GM Moving Executive Group (represented by our Chair, Andy King). They work together on behalf of the whole system, to shape and steer GM Moving.

The GM Active ‘We Move As One’ strategy has been developed in response to the GM Moving in Action strategy. Our collective commitment aligns with GM Moving. We want to support people to have active lives. This is within our indoor or outdoor facilities or through the wide variety of services and programmes we deliver in our local communities.

Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership

The Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership was formed following our city region’s historic devolution deal with Government.
The Partnership is made up of our local NHS organisations and councils, as well as people from NHS England and NHS Improvement, our emergency services, the voluntary sector, Healthwatch and others including the mayor of Greater Manchester.

Together, we’re finding what works on a local level, and responding to what people need across all ten boroughs. We’re using our experience and know-how to improve the way we spend our public health money. And we’re making sure that big decisions are being made together, locally.
Having taken charge of our health and social care services, we aim to improve the health and wellbeing of all the residents of Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester Combined Authority

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is made up of the ten Greater Manchester councils and thMayor of Greater Manchester, who work with other local services, businesses, communities and other partners to improve the city-region.

The ten councils (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) have worked together voluntarily for many years on issues that affect everyone in the region, like transport, regeneration, and attracting investment.

The GMCA gives local people more control over issues that affect their area. It means the region speaks with one voice and can make a strong case for resources and investment.
